Food for Thought: My Name is Gossip

Hi All,

With all of the stories in the news about bullying, I wanted to share the following anonymous poem about gossip. I can't stand what young people are doing to each other, and it breaks my heart that those on the receiving end of such nastiness feel the only way out is to end their lives. Young people aren't the only guilty ones. Even adults who should know better are just as bad when it comes to gossip and treating each other disrespectfully. It needs to stop.

Please don't hesitate to share your thoughts by leaving a comment.

Until next time,

Eddy

Well, I had Eddy check on that for me, and I still can't believe what turned up. Seriously, people are searching for some really bizarre sh*t, and the fact that my blog turned up in the results is totally weirding me out.

- I say bang bang, stay the h*ll away from my blog!!

** I have hamburger, what do I make with it?

- don't ask me... I work in a bakery

** nice women sing hamburger

- does that mean naughty women sing hot dog??

** sims 2 sex

- now wait just a frickin' minute, the sims are having sex???

Pain: My Word of the Month

Knowing that there is worse pain doesn't make present pain hurt any less.
- Real Live Preacher

Definitions for the word 'pain' found on the Web:

- a symptom of some physical hurt or disorder
- emotional distress; a fundamental feeling that people try to avoid
- a somatic sensation of acute discomfort
- something or someone that causes trouble; a source of unhappiness
- cause emotional anguish or make miserable
(wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn)

It’s -30 outside and I’m sitting here in my PJ's wondering when the pain in my heart will subside. I figure that maybe at some point it will stop or I will stop it. I haven’t figured out how yet, but sooner or later it has to go away.

The pain I feel is comprised of loneliness, sadness, disappointment, and yearning for someone who is completely oblivious and unaware of what has happened to us. I guess living in denial is easier. I wish I could be like her... dead inside. Sure, my Ex claims to be sorry, but it’s me who's alone at night with my memories and heartache. This is who I am... a heartbroken, lonely, slightly depressed person who can’t let go of the love that held her together for so many years. She, on the other hand, is a cold, heartless wench with no feelings for me whatsoever, and I don’t get it at all. How can she just put it out of her mind like it never happened?

Holy crap, I just read that back, and I'm pathetic. Please, someone slap me in the face and tell to f**king get a grip. I should be confined to a small room & made to forget, but how do you make the heart forget? I feel sad and I miss her... that’s it and that’s all.

JB

P.S. About that room, better make it a padded one, please. I hear it's easier to write on the walls.

Trust: My Word of the Month

Trust is like a mirror. Once it’s broken, you never look at it the same again.
- Anonymous

Definitions for the word 'trust' found on the Web:

- have confidence or faith in a person or plan, etc
- allow without fear
- believing in the honesty and reliability of others
- expect and wish
- extend credit to
(wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn)

If you've been reading my blog since August, then you know what happened with my Ex and HWSNBN. Never have I thought about trust as much as I have since those two turned my life upside down & inside out, which is why I chose it as my word of the month for December. You see, I've never had a problem trusting people, but it's not so easy for me now after what I've been through. This really saddens me because I believe that trust is very important in a relationship, no matter who it’s with (ex. lover, friend, etc), and I don't want to go through life with my guard up all the time.

How important is trust to you?

Change: My Word of the Month

I know a change is gonna come, oh yes it will. - Sam Cooke

Definitions for the word 'change' found on the Web:

- to make different in some particular: alter
- to give a different position, course, or direction to
- to make a shift from one to another : switch
- to undergo transformation, transition, or substitution
(http://www.merriam-webster.com/)

As a Canadian, voting in the American election wasn't an option for me, but when I got up Tuesday morning, I wished for the first time in my life that I'd been born an American. I would never speak those words to my mother, but I wished it. I knew in my heart that Tuesday evening was going to be a historical night and I wanted to take part. What I ended up doing was having dinner with my sister and some friends. We prepared a really nice BBQ meal, toasted with wine & beer, and talked politics.

When dinner was over, I drove home with just enough time to get inside, turn on the TV, and hear Barack Obama named the 44th president of the United States of America. Even though there was no doubt in my mind that he would win, it was still such a rush to hear his name announced. As I listened to him speak, I couldn’t stop thinking about what it all meant. There was history unfolding before my very eyes. There was hope being manifested. There was proof that people want change. There was the voice of the nation saying, “Yes, we can.”

Barack Obama is one man, but he has people all over the USA who believe in him & what they can do together. He also has many Canadians like me who believe just as strongly.

Let’s go change the world. – Barack Obama

Here We Go Again: Another E-Mail From My Ex

Endeavor:
- to strive to achieve or reach
- to attempt (as the fulfillment of an obligation) by exertion of effort
- to work with set purpose
(http://www.merriam-webster.com/)

For those of you who don't know yet, I finally cut ties with my Ex. Although, as I said in a previous post, it seems that I wasn't clear enough when I told her that we can't be friends because she sent me yet another e-mail. I have not responded, nor will I, but I just had to blog about it because she actually tried to get to me today by sending me a quote. Meanwhile, she doesn't even understand it. Here's the e-mail:

Hi JB,

I copied
(copied what ??).... Sorry. I just want you to know, i don't want to loose your friendship, (like I said before, what part of 'we can't be friends' does she not understand?) when the day comes that you you are able to talk to me, i will be here... I just don't like the way it ended... (why, because it means that you can't have your cake & eat it too?) Please say something to me, i don't want to make you angry or to bring you in a bad place, (well, you're doing a d*mn good job) i just want to know how you are doing... (none of your freakin' business) (i don't know what the word endeovor means in the thought...) (yeah, and you can't spell it either)

"A guiding operational principle in my life [is that]...if frustrated in one's endeavor by a stone wall or any kind of blockage, one must find a way around--another route toward one's goal."
— E. Margaret Burbidge

Chatte

It's a rather ironic quote coming from a person who keeps ramming her head into the 'we can't be friends' wall that I put up. Well, she can keep on ramming her head into it because I am not tearing it down.

Choice: My Word of the Month

The strongest principle of growth lies in human choice. - George Elliot

There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them. - Denis Waitley

Definitions for the word 'choice' found on the Web:

- pick, selection (the person or thing chosen or selected) "he was my pick for mayor"
- selection, option, pick (the act of choosing or selecting) "your choice of colors was unfortunate"; "you can take your pick"
- alternative, choice (one of a number of things from which only one can be chosen) "what option did I have?"; "there no other alternative"; "my only choice is to refuse"

- the act of choosing : selection
- power of choosing : option
- a number and variety to choose among
(http://www.merriam-webster.com/)

'Choice' makes for an interesting word. A simple choice could cause a wardrobe malfunction, like pairing pink shoes with a yellow top (cute if you’re two years old, but totally ridiculous if you’re an adult… my apologies in advance if this is your taste). Making a choice can also be a little more complicated, such as deciding who you’re going to vote for in this year’s election. Now, what about when it comes to making a choice for someone else? This is where things can get really tricky, especially if you don't consider the consequences or feelings of the person you are making the choice for. I should know because a handful of people made a choice for me, and it turned my life into a disaster that could have been avoided had they simply let me make my own choice.

Something to think about.

If you want to know why "hypocrite" is my word of the month, the answer is in many of my previous posts.

11 Words & Their Forgotten Meanings

No one means all he says, and yet very few say all they mean, for words are slippery and thought is viscous.

~ Henry Brooks Adams (The Education of Henry Adams, 1907)

I was thinking about this all day... about how we have forgotten the meaning of certain words, especially the eleven that I am about to define below. Here they are, in no particular order:

Love - a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person; a feeling of sexual desire and a passion

Honesty - freedom from deceit or fraud; truthfulness; sincerity or frankness

Respect - esteem for or sense of the worth or excellence of a person; a personnel quality or ability

Integrity -adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character and honesty

Friendship - the state of being a friend; association as friends; to value a person's friendship

Truth - the true or actual state of a matter; honesty, integrity, truthfulness

Commitment - the act of committing; a pledge or promise; obligation; engagement or involvement

Honour - honesty, fairness or integrity in one's belief's or actions

Moral - pertaining to or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong; ethical, moral attitudes

Virtue - moral excellence; goodness and righteousness

Soul - the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body and commonly held to be separable in the existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part

(Thanks to http://www.dictionary.com/ for those definitions)

As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words, but it's words that are used to define our actions. So, when you find yourself about to use one of those eleven words above, ask yourself if it really expresses how you feel. For example, when you tell someone that you "love" them, do your actions towards that person reflect the definition of "love" -- or, are you simply using the word with total disregard for its actual meaning?
